Bone Health in Cancer Survivors: What You Should Know - Mike McClung, MD, FACP, FACE

If you've been through cancer treatment, your bones have been through it too. Cancer therapies — from chemotherapy and hormone-blocking medications to early menopause brought on by treatment — can significantly affect bone density and raise your risk of fracture. The good news? This is something we can do something about. In this survivHERS session, Dr. Michael McClung — one of the world's leading osteoporosis experts — breaks down what cancer treatment does to your bones, how to know if you're at risk, and what steps you can take right now to protect your bone health for the long haul. From calcium and vitamin D to medications and lifestyle changes, Dr. McClung gives you the knowledge to walk into your next appointment ready to ask the right questions.

Michael McClung, MD, FACP, FACE, is an endocrinologist and the Founding and Emeritus Director of the Oregon Osteoporosis Center in Portland — one of the country's leading centers for bone health research and care. Over the course of his career, Dr. McClung has been the principal investigator on many of the landmark clinical trials that shaped how we understand and treat osteoporosis today, and has played a central role in developing clinical guidelines for national organizations, including The Menopause Society. He has served on the Board of The Menopause Society and has dedicated much of his career to training the next generation of physicians and translating complex bone health science into real guidance for real patients.
